The Basic Education and Valorization of Education Professionals Fund for Maintenance and Development (Fundeb) will expire at the end of 2020. In Brazil, 60% of the resources for basic education come from Fundeb – which has among its goals the reduction of inequality in the access to funding resources of the public grid.

In the last week, the House of Representatives approved the constitutional amendment proposal (PEC 1515) which becomes permanent the Fundeb and expands the participation of the Union in fund inputs. This draft is now in the Senate.

The new Fundeb is the subject of today’s Brazilian Women in Economics’s podcast episode. Laura Karpuska and Paula Pereda talked to the specialists in education Filomena Siqueira, Talita Nascimento, and Tassia Souza Cruz about the PEC 1515 e its effects on the quality of learning.
